Rose Art From Famous Paintings Of Old!

Image
Roses in Art The Baroque Period (1600-1800)   In this part we will look at the period in painting where roses were used considerably more than just simple adornments. Roses made a big impact with classical painting starting with the Dutch and Flemish masters in the 1600's, which is often called the Baroque period (1600-1800). Portraits and still-life's were very common during this period. The paintings were typically heavy paint, darker colors, and the detail is excellent.       Jan Brueghel (1568-1625) was one of the first to use the full pedaled centifolia roses in his paintings, such as in Rose with Diamonds (c. 1600), which is more of a vase with roses and tulips. He painted so many flowers; he was nicknamed "Velvet" or "Flower" Brueghel. He painted every type of flower with such a creative force. In one still-life, he painted over 200 flowers and over 40 different species. His botanical detail and use of colors is excellent. His son Ambrosius

Rose Plant Care Yearly Calendar

Rose Care Calendar 2012 Month by Month Guide January : Pruning, Bare Roots, Repotting and Renewal This month we force the roses into dormancy. How is this done? Pruning each bush back and removing all foliage forces the energy of growing back into the roots and canes. Look for a pruning class to give you the training or email us for help. You should always start with clean sharp bypass pruners. Seal large canes with white glue. Clean all debris under each bush. The final step will be using a dormant spray such as lime sulfur and/or horticulture oil to prevent disease and pests on the new growth. Finish the job with a 3 inch layer of mulch. Pictured above: My Sunshine (Miniature: yellow) Need a new rose? It's bare root rose season! Nurseries are ripe with young plants. Roses are rated in size by "grade." Stick with Grade 1 or 1.5 as they will have the best cane size. Canes should look healthy and green. If the canes are shriveled, do not purchase this plant. It is v

A Legend Of Christmas Rose

Image
Part of the color in celebration of the season is the blooming of Christmas roses. While a variety of plants over time have come to be called “Christmas Rose”, they all are steeped in a legend that dates back centuries. The Legend of the Christmas Rose speaks of a young girl named Madelyn who wanted to come worship the Christ Child. Seeing the gold, frankincense and myrrh brought by others who were drawn to the humble birthplace, she despaired that she had no gift to bring, for Madelyn was poor indeed. In vain she searched the countryside for a flower that she might bring, but the winter had been cold and harsh – and there were no Christmas flowers to be found. Saddened, the girl began to weep. An angel passing over her stopped to provide comfort and smote the ground that was wet from her tears. There did spring a beautiful bush that bloomed of white roses. "Nor myrrh, nor frankincense, nor gold," said the angel, "is offering more meet for the Christ Child than the

THE ROSE

By Bette Midler Lyrics Compiled and edited by Charlie Farricielli Some say love it is a river that drowns the tender reed Some say love it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed Some say love it is a hunger an endless aching need I say love it is a flower and you it’s only seed It’s the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance It’s the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance It’s the one who won’t be taken who cannot seem to give and the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long and you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows lies the seed that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes the rose   A Single Red Rose Says “I Love You” The Magical Powers of a Red Rose The Language of Flowers was brought to Europe in the 18th century. ThanksGiving Gratitude! Inspirational Table Quotes! Appreciate the power of the rose!

Image
The greatest thief of human happiness and abundance is ungratefulness. Any lack in our lives – whether in money, health, or relationships – is simply the evidence of a lack of gratitude. If you focus on lack you are not being grateful, and that will bring more lack into your life. Yet the simple state of radiating gratitude summons everything to you.   No matter whom you are or where you are, you can change your life with gratitude, but you must feel it with your whole heart and radiate it from every cell. Gratitude is not a mental exercise, and in fact, if you simply use your mind for gratitude it will have little or no power. True gratitude comes from your heart! You must think gratitude through your heart, speak gratitude through your heart, and feel it intensely in your heart.    Then practice gratitude relentlessly. As you practice gratitude you will attract more thoughts and feelings of gratitude. In a short time your entire being will be saturated with it, and you will experie

If Only A Rose Can Speak

If Only A Rose Can Speak If Only a Rose Could Speak Send Love, Send Feelings Written by Charlie Farricielli   The Rose.  Nature’s silent messengers of God!      Just last night I was thinking of ways for individuals to enhance the planet with additional sources of abundant love. Jenny Marie and I continue to learn numerous life secrets and countless blessed lessons concerning love and consecrated relationships. I make sure that Jenny has at least one fresh rose displayed for every special moment of our privileged lives. As I have written before in my blogs, roses are Gods silent messenger of love and feelings. Wow, If only roses could speak I thought! They would reveal to the recipient loving whispers of appreciation, gratefulness and love. They would speak the private expressions from our soul.     Then I realized roses do speak!   They speak unvoiced!  In forms of feelings and soundless emotions!  They portray visually and vividly our passionate wordless sentiments of “Love

A Brief History of Roses

Image
“It was roses , roses all the way” By- Robert Browning What’s in a name? “That which we call a rose; by any other name would smell as sweet?” - William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, Act 2 scene 2 Roses have a long and colorful history. According to fossil evidence, the rose is 35 million years old. Today, there are over 30,000 varieties of roses and it has the most complicated family tree of any known flower species. The cultivation of roses most likely began in Asia around 5000 years ago. They have been part of the human experience ever since and mentions of the flower are woven into a great many tales from the ancient world. And there are so many beautiful stories that include roses through out the ages that we all can recognize. Greek mythology tells us that it was Aphrodite who gave the rose its name, but it was the goddess of flowers, Chloris, who created it. One day while Chloris was cleaning in the forest she found the lifeless body of a beautiful nymph. To right this w
