Roses in Art The Baroque Period (1600-1800)   In this part we will look at the period in painting where roses were used considerably more than just simple adornments. Roses made a big impact with classical painting starting with the Dutch and Flemish masters in the 1600's, which is often called the Baroque period (1600-1800). Portraits and still-life's were very common during this period. The paintings were typically heavy paint, darker colors, and the detail is excellent.       Jan Brueghel (1568-1625) was one of the first to use the full pedaled centifolia roses in his paintings, such as in Rose with Diamonds (c. 1600), which is more of a vase with roses and tulips. He painted so many flowers; he was nicknamed "Velvet" or "Flower" Brueghel. He painted every type of flower with such a creative force. In one still-life, he painted over 200 flowers and over 40 different species. His botanical detail and use of colors is excellent. His son Ambrosius

Rose Plant Care Yearly Calendar

Rose Care Calendar 2012 Month by Month Guide January : Pruning, Bare Roots, Repotting and Renewal This month we force the roses into dormancy. How is this done? Pruning each bush back and removing all foliage forces the energy of growing back into the roots and canes. Look for a pruning class to give you the training or email us for help. You should always start with clean sharp bypass pruners. Seal large canes with white glue. Clean all debris under each bush. The final step will be using a dormant spray such as lime sulfur and/or horticulture oil to prevent disease and pests on the new growth. Finish the job with a 3 inch layer of mulch. Pictured above: My Sunshine (Miniature: yellow) Need a new rose? It's bare root rose season! Nurseries are ripe with young plants. Roses are rated in size by "grade." The Magic and timeless Secret of Gratitude

Image
The Magic and timeless Secret of Gratitude And Roses By Charlie Farricielli T he greatest thief of human happiness and abundance is ungratefulness. Any lack in our lives - whether in money, health, or relationships - is simply the evidence of a lack of gratitude. If you focus on lack you are not being grateful, and that will bring more lack into your life. Yet the simple state of radiating gratitude summons everything to you. N o matter whom you are or where you are, you can change your life with gratitude, but you must feel it with your whole heart and radiate it from every cell. Gratitude is not a mental exercise, and in fact, if you simply use your mind for gratitude it will have little or no power. True gratitude comes from your heart! You must think gratitude through your heart, speak gratitude through your heart, and feel it intensely in your heart T hen practice gratitude relentlessly.
