Medicine And The Magic Of The Rose

Image
Medicinal Properties of “The Rose” Medicinal and Magical Properties of “The Rose” Written and Edited By Charlie Farricielli Wild roses of many species (Oginiminaga wunj rose berries, in Ojibwe) are abundant on the western prairies, especially when water is anywhere nearby. They like sun. The ones I’ve seen in North and South Dakota all have pinkish blossoms, like this drawing, but I’ve heard there are white, yellowish, and pale reddish-brown ones also. These roses, blossoming on thorny briar tangles, flower through June and begin to set their haws, hips or berries, which are ripe by early fall. Rose hips have been an important food for all Native tribes where any kind of roses can be found. They are extremely high in vitamin C, much more so than oranges, for example. Dried, they keep well, and will always be available in winter. Most health food co-ops sell them (for $25/lb or so, another economic opportunity for tribal youth in late summers). Dried rose hips need to be boiled ab

Green Food Healing Miracle! Algae

The Algae's! Miracle Healing Gift Of The Earth! Algae and the History of the World       Three and one-half billion years ago, the Earth’s atmosphere was nearly devoid of oxygen and, instead, rich in the greenhouse gases that have become so infamous today, such as methane, carbon dioxide, and sulfurous gases. Then, something magical happened. Simple single-celled organisms known as cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) appeared in the primordial sea that had the ability to photosynthesize. Through this miraculous process, these organisms used the sunlight, along with minerals from the ocean and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, to produce all the complex molecules of life: proteins, carbohydrates (starches and sugars), lipids (fats), nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), vitamins, phytonutrients, chlorophyll, and many other pigments. This miraculous process continues to this day. All our modern green plants have since duplicated algae’s historic feat of photosynthesis, but algae are stil

The Real Christmas Story! The Night Before Christmas!

The Real Story! The Night Before Christmas!   W hat is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.   The real Christmas giving That makes this life worth living And shows that we are any use in this old world of care Is to give where it is needing And pass not by unheeding The wants of those around us who do not get their share. Some humble, little present Or a smile that’s warm and pleasant Will please a child or cheer those hearts that oft for kindness yearn And will give more real pleasure Than a ton of costly treasure That we send our friends, expecting something better in return.
